Good replacement for stock TBI?

Wondering what a nice replacement is for a stock TBI on a 305....nice performance but keeping decent fuel economy. Also something that will be good if I switch to a 350 within the next year. Thanks.

First off, remove the silencer ring (thingy that holds your stock air cleaner up) and then go to a parts store and look for a 14x2 K&N filter and air cleaner assembly, drop base.

Most people get the 14x3, but if you want to ever get a better manifold, get the 14x2 for stock hood clearance. I recommend you stay away from holley manifolds, just my personal nightmarish experience with the 300-66 manifold. The edelbrock performer TBI #3704 is the closest you'll ever get to a stock replacement manifold.

Get rid of the stock cat converter and get a highflow - big help. Depends on what you're looking to do really and money.

The L03 is an uphill battle, but the damn thing will run forever. If I could do this all over again, I'd save my money and ran my stock setup for a year or so and bought a crate 350 H.O. motor from jegs for around 1800, and paid someone to convert it to TPI.

Best thing really, if you're not too attached to your TBI car yet and you can afford the insurance, go out and buy a 4th gen Z28 or find an L98 (350TPI) Thirdgen. That way, you don't have to worry about computer, the car came with a 350 etc.. Much less headaches. The TBI wasn't really designed for speed. The 3800 Series II V6 engine OWNS you unless you get about 1k of mods in your car. So steer clear of grand prix GT's, ESPECIALLY GTP's and and 3.8 F-body. You should take care of sixer stangs with minor modifications.

Good luck!

I agree with Fredless...it all depends on what you want. If i had the money i would swap the whole engine, but i don't. If your on a low budget, i would say stick with TBI..install the ultimate TBI mods, exhaust, gears, posi, the basic...if your looking for racing..go carb..but then youll be running like 8 miles to the gallon..lol..tpi is very very very expenisive..unless you find used. I am considering tpi, but it is a big job to do. Reply to the thread with what you plan on doing(engine swap keep tbi install carb, tpi) I'm positive you will have a ton of replies..i did...good luck.
