Spring TBI projects

Its almost finally time to start thinking spring, only 5 weeks away! What are everyone's plans?

Hopefully Ill have my chip burning stuff together and have some sort of working setup to replace the stock chip. The rear end (3.42 posi, disc) will finally go in, and then lca relocation brackets, lcas, and a panhard rod if I can spring that. Along with a good tune-up with Moroso wires and AC plugs, I should finally start to see some good times. Norwalk opens while Im at school, so I wont get to run it till May 2nd -ish.

Well chuck, I'm kinda working along the same lines... I'm doing a complete rear-end re-build with SLP posi, Spohn LCA relocators and LCAs, Ratech kit and crush sleeve eliminators, disk brakes (I hope), and an aluminum support cover. I bought 3.23 gears for the rear, but now I'm thinking that 3.42, 3.55, or 3.73s are gonna be the better choice. I'm finally getting rid of my custom 2 3/4" chambered exhaust in favor of Hooker 2055 headers and a Hooker 3" cat-back. Oh, and Spohn sub-frame connectors will come in there somewhere too. Thats about all for spring, but I'm hoping that (pending I find the right job after graduating from VA Tech this semester) by summer's end I will have an HT 383 topped off with a Holley 4 bbl TBI and 950 commander system in front of a built 700R4 with a Hurst ratchet shifter. These are pretty high expectations, but I think it's do-able as long as the job market starts to look up around May

I'd go with the 3.73s. That's what I've got in my car, and I love 'em. They made one hell of a seat of the pants difference. It was like night and day.

nothing special for this spring break:
give car, interior, and engine/bay a good thorough cleaning, install shift light, adjust idle speed, fuel pressure and timing tuning, check suspension bolts, etc. possibly a TBI spacer and a bunch of other small things.

also, save more money for the big L05 swap this summer!!!!

1MEAN92RS, I feel you about the job market. Im looking for a co-op this summer but the demand side is pretty slim. Hopefully if I get one she'll see a little giggle juice over the summer

Ahhh, Spring Break...

I'm planning on: Doubt much will get done however.
-Finishing 48mm TBI project.(TBI is getting bored out as we speak) Make a trip to the salvage yard for some 350 injectors.
-Finish Wonder-Bar
-Plan SFCs
-Get 327 block cleaned/bored .030/freezeplugs/cam bearings
-Box LCAs
-Clean interior/enginebay
-Search for more rust
-WORK, so I can afford more stuff.

That's always the way it goes... I'll be happy if I just get my exhaust done over spring break, but I'm hoping that I can start some preliminary chip burning as well. Anyone else see the honorable mention we got in the new Super Chevy? Also, this week is car week on The Screen Savers on Tech TV. So far I'm unimpressed... no mention of burning Eproms, just $2-3000 aftermarket ECMs.

*sigh*

Dual TBI rig. Haltech control.

Single blow through turbo.

I've got all of the parts, just need the time to do it. Of course, I remember saying that last year too...

I'm going to be boring out a stock TBI to 2-1/16". I got the idea from RBob. Boring the TBI out this big requires sleeves to be installed. Should be interesting. I hope to compile enuf data to make a "how-to" or something like that. It's not really good for the DIY'er since you need a mill or a lathe. I'll have to see how it goes because the same friend who's going to bore the TBI out also CNC'd from scratch a 4 bbl throttle body for an MPFI setup. I'll have to see which one I can get.

With my new engine combo running I've been maxing out my fuel tables. Tomorrow I pick up my vAFPR from the dealer. 20 psi @ WOT and roughly 13 psi at idle. It should be interesting trying to tune around the FPR curve. At least I'll have enuf fuel at WOT without maxing the VE tables out.

Then there's the Mustang...but I wouldn't want to go into the 393 ci stroker and Holley Commander 950 setup on an F-Body site

also, if everything goes right, i might be making a bunch of 1/2" phenolic TBI spacers if anyone is interested. I hope to have them ready by the end of March, again, if everything goes right. They should be between $15-20.

Hmmm.....I think a list is in order so everybody can see just how busy I keep myself.
-Tuning into low 13's with 2 barrel TBI and GM ecm n/a
-Wideband o2 sensor
-Lockers and romless ecm
-Make my own underdrive pulleys
-Weld up LCA relocation brackets
-Install the newly aquired cowl hood and fix it back to bolt on condition
-Build custom torque arm from left over chromoly tube
-Find 1.5" vacuum gauge and mount it in the cowl area along with the curren 0-30psi FP gauge
-Build custom air cleaner bonnet for dual 3" pipes to cold air snorkels
-Machine RPM intake so I can use a lower profile adaptor plate and make the TB position adjustable (middle for track, front for daily driven)
-Find 16x8 wheels for drag radials
-Do big burnouts with some 15x7 rubber and replace with the slicks I aquired for free

List of projects I'm doing on the side with a friend out here at school;
-Dual resonance intake manifold which is going to be REALLY cool when it's completed and put on the dyno
-Adjustable duration cam kit which will use a 3d profiled cam and special lifters
-Computer controlled PCV and EGR if there is time

The goals are to be kicking serious butt at the track with the sub 2g's crate motor and 2 barrel TBI. If I can get a 105mph trap speed I'll be satisfied. Then hopefully before the summers end we'll have completed the intake manifold.
With some more weight reduction I should be able to post some really good times. After much deliberation I've decided to not do the cam swap. So long as the motor doesn't need a refresh I'm not going to go into it to be restricted to 480 lift. I'd be happy with 540 lift and everybody knows about the stock vortec heads. Oh yeah, and if I do my own paint/prep work for the front end to get repainted I hope to have enough for Edelbrocks 50/75/100 shot of the laughing gas. With the walbro pump and wideband/lockers I should be able to get away with a 100 shot at the track a few times. Just let the pistons/engine cool down between runs. Might sell the kit after I've had my fun. If anything else it'll be a reason to beef up the 10 bolt rear, , lol, that's gonna crap itself just with the slicks let alone a shot of N2o.
Those are all just plans but most of the fabrication will be completed before June.

yeah, during the day of racing I went from 13.9's at 100 to 13.9's at 101 to 13.8 at 102 on the forth run but lost gobs of time just spinning the tires after the 1-2 shift which accounts for the 13.8 and not a 13.7 or lower. Keep in mind that wasn't what you would call "in tune". More like "timing feels about right/idles good, light throttle feels good, fuel pressure.....well crank it up to be safe (didn't know what it was at), and a relatively stock ANLU eprom should safice for a baseline." Then I was having troubles with the fuel pump which kept me from posting any better times or mph with my custom burns. If I had a wideband o2 I would have been able to find the faulty pump in no time.
So with the new pump it shouldn't have troubles hitting the higher mph which is what I'm tuning for. The rest of the car is still a daily driver so full weight and street tires is how I like to drag. That way there are no excuses.
