Open Element questions for those of you who have one.

I just got my cowl hood and now I want to get an open air element. I don't mind paying a little for the right setup but I need to know about the base. I know I want a flat base but I am wondering if I need the offset one or not? I don't have that bulky distributor with HEI. Would an offset one make a flow difference? Good or bad? Thanks.

I am a big fan of ramairbox.com but, the setup isn't really user friendly I found out. I wanted to do that first but the ram air box for the cowl hood won't fit the tbi without the tbi being raised up or the air cleaner itself being physically raised up to meet the box. The box doesn't allow for the tbi being lower than the lip of the lowest part of the hood. Know what I mean? I really wanted to get one of those.

, sorry I get long winded sometimes. The extreme lids are nice but a bit pricey for me right now. Maybe later I can afford one to put on top of my cleaner. Have you ever seen one of those cowl boxes close up? I would like to see how someone has put one on their car. I want to do that pretty bad.

I say go out and get a flat bottom base 14"x4" air cleaner setup. You can buy it all in one piece from K&N or get a cheap base setup and then buy the 14"x4" K&N filter and put it in there.

I ordered a 14 x 5 with reusable filter from summit. That ought to stand tall. Should fit under a 3" cowl hood. It should be here sometime this week. I want to powder coat the air cleaner. I know a guy down the road that does it on the side cheap. Just don't know what color yet. I am torn between gloss black, red, and almost chrome.
