cam install cost

After i get my nitrous kit in over spring break, i want to do a cam install. While i can handle the basic stuff, i think the cam swap is a little over my head, so i was wondering roughly how much i'm looking at to have someone do it. thanks

Donnie

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
I just did a list for 4mula88 that included.......

Water pump gaskets - 59¢/ea
Valve cover gaskets - $15.99/set
Timing set for roller cam - $30.99/ea
Timing cover gasket - $17.99/ea
Oil pan gasket - $34.15/ea
TBI gasket - $1.99/ea
Intake manifold gasket - $18.49/set

Then there was a $15 deposit for a harmonic damper puller.

Total before tax is $135.78 and that's not including the cam.

These are all FelPro gaskets, and the timing set is DynaGear. All from AutoZone.

I imagine it's a 2 hr job at $65/hr (where I live) is $130 and expect to pay more for gaskets through a repair shop. Plus antifreeze, RTV, assembly lube, etc. Then like I said, the cam and lifters (if you need new lifters).

You're gonna be looking at ~$350 for everything, and that's if you use a flat tappet cam??

Are you SURE you wouldn't consider doing it yourself?

witht eh cost of the cam, it was less than $250 for me to do the swap. If you have a shop do it, it will probably take them longer than 2 hours. Cam swap takes some time and those guys wont exacly be "hustling" Youd probably be looking at at least 400 dollars in labor. Theyll take their time and get a sizable chunk of money form you. Hell, an oil change these days from a dealer on a new car is almost a $100 with all the extra crap they throw in. You really have to do the work yourself if you want to afford it. All you really need are the tools, wearables, and a saturday with nice weather to do the swap.
