Few ?'s on open element install parts

Ok I found the open element air cleaner I wanted. Couple questions though. I have a 305 TBI. First, where can I get the vacuum cap pictured here? http://snflupigus.tripod.com/step2.htm Do they sell those at a parts store? What exactly should I ask for? A TBI vacuum cap? Also, when I take off the stock air cleaner and the metal hose that goes from the manifold I guess, to the air cleaner body, where can I get that chrome cap I've seen on some other cars? It's on the other side of where the oil cap is. Dont wanna just leave it an open hole.... What is the part called I should ask for? Where can I find it.....been trying to look online. Any summit part #'s would be helpful since that's where Im buying my air cleaner. Im sorry if these questions are stupid, this is the first mod I will have ever tried on my own car and I want to do it right!! Thank you.

Take the old line, cut it a little and plug it with a machine screw.
look at the pic of min to illustrate.

the other thing is called a push in breath cap sold at every autostore.

I just went to the part store and bought some vaccum caps, thats what they were called. They came as a variety pack but you only need one. As far as the breather filter is concerned (the hole opposite the oil cap) I just left it with the stock breather. From what I understand an aftermarket one isnt necessary just that it looks a lot better.

hope this helps

Ive had a rubber vacuum cap rot and get most of it sucked into the tbi. Thats why I feel its easier just to shove a screw in it.

But like greek said, they can be bought

Ok, are there any good places I can order these caps from online? Reason I ask this stupid question is that I am stationed over in the UK and have to get a lot of products online now.

what's the use of pluging the vacuume line? because I didn't "cap it" when I did this mod . I didn't notice any problems though...

If you don't plug that vacuum line you have a constant vacuum leak that's why you're going to want to plug it when doing this mod. You don't really need to bother with these caps though just screw in a small screw into the end of the vacuum line and you're good to go.

I'm guessing that there will there be a signifficant loss of power because of this leak

Vacuum leaks = bad performance. I've found that having an assortment of these vacuum caps in my tool box can come in very handy. I've used them for all sorts of applications, including the open element swap.

I know this question is slightly off topic but it has to do with open element. Once I get my refund I am going to do the mod. I am debating on the 14x3 drop base or flat base. Which one will work with the stock hood. I know drop base will provided I leave the spacer. What about a flat base? Any problems so I can remove the spacer and kill two birds with one stone.

I got the drop base and I dont like it. If I knew there was a flat base I would have gone with that so I could remove the spacer. But the only comapny that I know of that sells flat base air filters is K&N.

Just curious, but why would you have a hole in the valve cover from doing the open element mod? Are you sure your not talking about the heat stove that is mounted to the exhaust manifold. The best thing to do with that is to remove it and through it in your tool box if you think you might want to put it back on at a latter date.

I beleive hes referring to the passenger side pcv valve. Some people leave the factory filter sit in and it looks all chinsy sticking up.

Also, when I take off the stock air cleaner and the metal hose that goes from the manifold I guess, to the air cleaner body, where can I get that chrome cap I've seen on some other cars? It's on the OTHER side of where the oil cap is.
I don't know about your car, but my oil cap is on the driver side.

Steve

OPPs, I guess I didn't see the word OTHER .
