What is up with the black canister???
I have a 91 RS W 305 and was wanting to get rid of the black canister on the drivers side front of the engine compartment. Somebody told me I just need to plug off the vacuum line coming from the throttle body unit and put a check valve on the end of the line coming from the fuel tank. Do you think that would work?? He also said my check engine light would stay on if I unhooked that electrical connecter on it. Trying to clean up my engine compartment as much as possible. THANKS
i think you are talking about the post shut down emissions canister(charcoal canister). all you need to do to get rid of it is plug the line off the throttle body and the exit line that goes down to teh vapor return line. no check engine lights will appear from removing it.

Let me get this straight now
NJ, You said all I need to do is plug off both lines and thats it?? Man that is simple. I was curious to what the thing does also. What does the line do going to the fuel tank??
What it does is when you turn your car off, the fuel vapors in your manifodl and throttle body get sent into the canister via the plastic line from the throttle body. There, the vapors condensate into liquid and sent back to your fuel tank via the metal line next to your steering shaft.
Its a really stupid "GM does this so the EPA pats them on the back" thing. No state really does post shutdown emissions. Take it out, i just zip tied the connectors out of the way. Plugged the TBI line, and shoved a bolt in the fuel return line.

ive heard its a bitch, but you have to run new wires to the battery and find a way to mount it securely to the floor. Also if you plan on going to the track you have to vent the battery.

Coolant Bottle Relocation
I switched to a V6 bottle - it was smaller - then I put it under the plastic cover where the hood latch is - on the pass side - drilled a 2.5 inch hole with a hole saw that the filler cap pokes through. I did this to have clearance for a second snorkel - cleaned that side of compartment nicely. Maybe I'll move washer fluid bottle under the plastic on driver side and get it out of the way as well.
