Aftermarket coil?

Whats the story on these? I thought the coils are built into the distributor.. Can someone tell me whats a good inexpensive aftermarket replacement, and where and how does it hook up?

After some thought, I'm just going to get a stock replacement.

Do the coils go bad after a while? Could it possibly be causing my rough running troubles?

the MSD Blaster coil is what I've got. My old coil was arcing and I noticed a SOTP difference when I installed the Blaster. The coil is just under the air cleaner on the back side of the intake manifold. Unless your old coil is shot or arcing to the motor I don't think replacing it will help you with your rough idle. That's more likely to be plugs, wires, timing, or possibly your cap and rotor.

Im running the MSD too, I like it. I noticed it smoothed out my idle, but I dont think it did anything to add power though.

The MSD Blaster Coil will only show you improvements when you get into higher RPM ranges like over 6000 RPM (I think) when your stock unit can't keep up.

I have the MSD Blaster on mine though, didn't notice any difference in power, but it looks and feels like a better build unit than the OEM I had on it.... if nothing else, you may get longevity from it.

I too have an MSD blaster coil, and noticed a sotp difference past 4,500rpm where the stock one dies off. Maybe my stock on was on it's way out, i dunno. But for $40, i still feel it was the best $$ to power gain. Can't argue with increasing the powerband by another 500rpm.
