Exhaust sound better with headers?

I've heard of people saying the exhaust sounds different...Louder or throaty or what?

I've got no cat and a turbo muffler... How will it sound? Nice?

I suggest the tpi ones as well. they come with 1 3/4" primaries as opposed to 1 5/8". I highly recommend getting them ceramic coated as well. It is expensive, but worth it-this is coming from experiance. Keeps the engine bay temps down and makes for a much longer life span of the header. And you don't have to deal with looking at rust

i bought the edelbrock tpi headers with a 3 inch y pipe and i did a 3 inch exhaust with no cat at the same time it sounds nice i got my headers nickel plated they oxidized really bad but it isnt rusting they are just all rainbowed up

Yeah, that's another downside of the "TBI" headers, they usually only come with a 2 1/2" y pipe. Answering your origional question though-mine didn't seem any louder, but did seem much more throaty as well just as arrowcamaro experianced.

HITHERE thought the edelbrocks were 1 5/8 inch primaries regardless of the y pipe size? HITHERE know they used to be stepped primaries between 1 1/2 and 1 5/8, but HITHERE thought they were all 1 5/8 inch now instead of 1 3/4???

Exhaust manifolds will sound louder with a cat-back and a cam. Only because the gas moving out is a cluster ****. With my SLP tri-y headers the car is very quiet vs some other cars I've seen. Some people say they sound louder with headers it's usually deeper and usually thin gauge metal. Iron manifolds are heavy, hot, and crap. I like my SLP's because they're thicker than your average headers. Makes for more of a sleeper when you want to suprise or shame some squid on a bike or ***** in his flashy go cart.

Headers will give it a more defined/tuned sound. A cam swap will wake up the exhaust sound. The 3" TPI exhaust will give a deeper throaty sound than the piddly 2.5" TBI exhaust.

yea the only difference i seen in the two ( tpi and tbi) are that the tpi headers dont have that ugly heat stove for the stock air cleaner
