safe to make own spacer?

safe to make own spacer?

ok , i got a weird idea and seeing how im cheap, i decided to make my own 1 inch spacer....i used the gasket as a template and it came out GREAT..i wish i had a digi camera to show yall....but the question is, ..is it safe?? and i used plywood...is that bad or does it matter???

Eventually it will become fuel soaked. Can extend its life by painting it with the hot fuel proof paint found in hobby shops for use on gas airplanes.

so was this a bad idea?? i mean...will it work lol....i figured ...wood....reduces heat to tbi...only thing i had was 1 inch thick plywood laying around....

It will work ok. Rbob was just saying that you need to coat it with something fuel proof to keep it from soaking up gas over an extended period of time.

dude, youll never believe what just happened, before i saw that.....I FORGOT THE RETAINER>.....hit the gas VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
me- " AHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO WTF!!!!!!!!!" heh, nailed the brakes, ..didnt help, hit the e brake, ...stopped he car * after i almost nailed someone* and threw it in neutral quick like and hit the key.....fixed it, cranked it up, glug glug glug black smoke out the tail pipes and white smoke out the manifold..NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ....let it si for a min...cranked up...ran fine...no smoke...im like "uhh thank ***??"

i had to fabricate a spacer to clear my EGR and used teflon at first, but eventually it cracked because i didn't have enough material around the bores. If you want a sure bet, stop by a local machine shop with a template and have them punch one out of aluminum, I made my own and it works nasty.

ill try to get a pic of mine for you its made out of phenolic 1 inch thick no probs with soaking in fuel and stays cooler than aluminum.
