The last nail in the coffin...

for my stock LO3 that is. I am tired of losing races and getting punked out. I got beat by my friend the other day in his '72 El Camino in a street race. His car has an ALL STOCK 350 besides a Crane Energizer cam and an open element. He's also running 2:73 gears. I couldnt beleive that 4000+ pound porker beat my car. So now the time has come for me to install my pile of parts onto my car. It has alot of miles on it but I think it still has life left in it. So far as parts go, I have accumulated a fresh set of 416's left over from aprevious project, an LT1 cam, an LG4 intake and TBI adapter, a 454 TBI, and if anyone knows where I can order a pigtail for the TPS lemme know (I havent searched yet). As for exhaust, I think I'm just going to cut everything off from the cat back and install a cheap glasspack on the end of the Y-pipe. Please dont rag me for this, it is only temporary until I get headers, and finally a V6 rearend. What kind of times should I expect out of this thing with those mods. Ilive about 25 miles from the beach if that gives you any clue on altitude. Wow, that was really long.

i think that 6 cyl rear gear will be better but your gonna need a posi too your gonna have more traction probs. then you already have with that peglegger

I'm right there with ya! I just spent $600 last night! (it still stings, and it ain't close to over yet!) I start my tear-down next week (hopefully). I'm almost finished porting a set of 416's myself, having them cut for 1.94 intakes, putting in 1.6 rollertips, LT1 cam, Weiand 8000 intake, Hedman headers, hiflo cat & muffler. Gonna do ultimate TBI mods while I wait on machine shop work.

Last month, I made dual snorkel and put in a posi-rear. Slowly but surely I'm gonna get a fun ride outta this '90 RS!

BTW .... I'm in Raleigh.

Actually, going from a 2.73 open rear-end to a 3.42 (or 3.73 for that matter) posi rear-end will yield much improved traction.

Well actually I have 2 pairs of 416's. I have a set that I am currently porting when time permits and then I have the set that I am putting on my car this weekend. I had them completely rebuilt and installed them on a 307, and ran it for about 2000 miles, so they are still pretty fresh. BTW I really dont have a traction problem now but that may change with the mods and that rear end. Oh yea, just FYI guys I tried that glasspack on the end of the y-pipe tonight and it actually sounded really good. It was'nt loud at all and had a good low rumble, not slappy at all like a good ol' boys huntin' truck. Any ideas on the BB TBI TPS pigtail? Thanx.

Dude... I totally know the feeling

When I first got the car I already had a 350 block. My plans were to eventually put it in the Camaro. Well... yadda yadda yadda..... things didn't work out too well financially.

Well after I got the car I took a friend to the dragstrip. I ran a best 17.1 ET. He ran a 16.5 in his '98 Hyundai Elantra.

I just went there Sunday, and after $700 of work (not motor) I ran a best of 16.539 ET. Then another friend of mine ran his totally stock '00 Cavalier Z24 and got a best ET of 16.347

Granted I've got 186K miles on my car, and it cost me $3200+$700 of mods for a total of $3900. The Cavalier cost ~$18K and the Elantra cost $14K. So I guess if you wanna talk $$/ET I WIN!!!!! :sillylol:

I've decided that THIS summer is gonna be the summer I get the 350 done. I at least want to run 14.5 ET like my '94 Z28 did.

I definitely know the feeling, especially when i got beat by my homeboys Suburban. I know, he had a 350, and mine was at the time a bone stock L03, but it still stings. We jus got to face the fact, we can build a badass 305, and it runs high 13's, and anyone wit a 350 and headers can get that wit out breakin a sweat.
Oh, well. No matter what happens, theres no replacement for displacement

Thanx Red92, I might try them for yhe pigtail. BTW I finished the g-pack install tonight and took it for a ride and it was horrible. It sounds great at idle and WOT but the interior noise is terrible, really loud. When I cut the cat off I just crimped that little tube shut taht is part of the emmisions control crap and now it is throwing the SES light. Im going to the dragstrip tomorrow night and I'm curious if the result of that SES light will force the car into some limp mode or something ( ie. retard timing). The car semmed to drve fine tonight but I want to be sure befor I run the 1/4. Thanx

i was just wonderin what you guys do against dakota r/t's me and my friend race between each other quite often and i am about 3 feet ahead of him untill about 85 90 then he starts to pull on me but that is usually with the t-tops off so the drag will have a big difference in the top speed

with my stock L03, the only R/T i ever raced had at least a cat-back on it, and i had him to about 30mph, then he slowly started to pull away.
