StealthRam MFPI intake manifold
StealthRam MFPI intake manifold
Hey all im new to this forum and got a question. I recently bought a 1991 firebird formula and was wondering if this intake manifold shown here-->StealthRam MFPI intake would fir my 91 305 tbi. I know it won't clear the stock hood but what if i got the hood and ram air kit shown here-->RamAir Hood kit . That should add up to around 80 ponnies for just over $1200
any input on this would be appreciated.

well, it wil "fit" as in bolt on to, a TBI engine, but the computer won't support the MPFI, you would have to switch to a TPI computer system, or buy the whole kit from holley that includes stealth ram, command 950 computer system, injectors, sensors, ect. that runs around $2300.
Dewey316 do you have a link to this kit your talking about. That doesn't sound like to bad of a deal but $2300 is alot of cash. Do you know of anyone who has installed this kit, and can you tell me if they are very satisfied with the results?

the only person i know with a steath ram has a 92 1LE , he put the stealth ram on with a comp-cam, and trickflow heads, he is makeing 425 or so HP.
i don't know anyone who has installed the full 'Kit' you would probably be able to do the TPI computer swap for much cheaper than the full holley kit.
here is the link to the kit at summit.

what they sell at thunder, is the intake, plenum, and runners. thats all.

I have done the swap from TBI to Stealth ram on my 92 RS. I just bought the manifold, plenum, fuel rail kit from thunder racing for $480. Found a 91 speed density harness and ECM for $120. Picked up some Ford 30 pound injectors for $160 off eBay. Then you need a throttle body, I have a stock 48mm that I got for $40 but I went and bought the Holley 58mm TB for $375. You will also need a high pressure pump, I chose the Holley unit for $150. Then you will need little things, sensors, air filter, ducting for the air intake, different fuel lines, some new vacuum lines, and maybe a dual fan setup.
But I doubt you will gain anywhere near 80hp probably more like 30. The TBI heads and cam are not high rpm pieces like the stealth ram. I would look at new heads and cam before I swapped to this manifold or you will be disappointed.
Here is a pic of my new engine.

85-86 f bodies with the coil on cap HEI distributor, need to swap the cap and coil to a small cap,and externally mounted coil. The thermostat housing needs to be changed to one with a 1 inch water neck and the hose also needs to be replaced. Total cost for this setup including gaskets, silicone, fuel fittings etc....... is $655.
I got this quote from an article in the may 2003 issue of gm high tech performance mag where they installed this setup on an 86

Yea do a search for the Stealth Ram FAQ, there's a big list of just about everything you'd want to know about it
If anyone is curious, I emailed Holley and they said a Vortec version is supposed to be comming out sometime this year. GMHTP also reported that a version with about a 1/4" shorter tunnel would be comming out to fit under all 3rd gen hoods without modification.
