350 carb to 350 TBI works but not perfect, any ideas
Ok set the stage. 85 V6 port injected, yank and replace with 350 carb. 3 years later place a TBI system from and 88 firebird, ecm and harness, tbi manifold heads sensors came from 90 TBI 350 truck.
I should add that the cam is comp 249 XE Hydrolic non roller 112 sep, 434 I 444E lift 206I 212E dur at .050
Woks fairly well just small problems.
1. Idels rough at times, acts like a Vacume leak but is not always present and ocasionaly stalls. Idel is at about 900 rpm (hard to tell on tach) Only code that sets is during driving and thats code 24 Vss not registering. Timing is at 6 deg BTDC set with tan wire unpluged. car gose in to closed loop just fine SES flashes at 1 flassh a sec when a/b is shorted and engine running. problem seems to go away when IAC is tested fully seated and disconected but hard to tell car idels at about 500 RPM in that mode.
This all leads to 2nd problem.
2. Code 24 for the Vss i hooked the brown wire up to gague pack at the correct location for the Vss according to the wireing diagrams, the question is will the Vss from the 85 run by speedo by a cable to trans work the ECM form the 88 which was run by the puls generator on the trans??
Im driving the car now. theys problems arnt so bad that it can be driven every day, just a touch anoying

Can you tell us a little more about your car? Is it an auto or 5speed. You may want to change ecms to a newer one, say an 89 or later, and one thats out of a Caprice( the chip will be closer to what your engine wants and needs )also get a vss off a 89 or later transmission as well. This should help some but more tuning may be required.

Steve the Trans is a 700 R4. This is my first trip in to FI so i started with what i thought would be simple. Comp said the cam would work with the ECM no problem but I know they are selling parts and not advice. Im a 40 year old hotroder thats been doing this since age 16 ive followed this board for 6 months learning. unfurtunatly the ECM i can not truly identify ( paper with part number was gone) other than it was a 305 firebird from and 88 may not have been the original system though car was a hack job that a friend got in a trade. (was totaled), the injectors are stock from the 350 90 truck. I was under the impression that the ECM didnt realy car what motor as long *** the injectors matched the engine size. I'll learn lol ok so try a ecm from a 350 car rather than 305. Ill check in to the puls generator from the 89+ car but then how do i run my speedo?? no provision for the speedo cable on 88+ cars.

what chip are you using in the car? the one that was in the firebird?

re-read you post, you said it was the 305 chip.
i would first start with a 350 chip, and also see if you can do some dataloggin with winaldl.

What year transmission do you have? I believe you can get an aftermarket speed sensor that will work with the tbi ecm from turbo city. Or you might find a converter for the speed sensor in the speedo that will convert pulse to frequency.
