3.08 to 3.73 track results

I finally got my gears and posi installed, went to the track and turned a best of 15.65 @88
Thats up from a 15.2X @ 90 with no other changes.
The weather hurt the time some it was in the 80s probably vs
the 40s last time. But I don't think the gears helped a bit.
I've heard people say they gained close to 1/2 a second with that mod. What do yall think about this.
Mike

thats weird.....i went from a 15.970 to 15.294 (about 7 tenths) with 3.73s, posi, crank pulley, tbichips.com stage 1 chip, and 6* timing advance. Im guessing at least a half second of that is from the gears and posi.

What do your 60' times look like, were you spinning off the line, when was the transmission shifting before and after the gears, what are your other mods. the answers to these questions should help us determine what is wrong with your setup.

2.15 seems about right for a 60', im pulling about the same with my car.

What are your other mods, if you are not making enough top end, those gears could be getting you out of your power range very quickly. I personally would have probably benefited more from 3.42s, but am going with a 350 w/ LT1 cam later and figured id just get the 3.73s now.

I don't think I gained much when I had a LO3.

Your not the first to make the mistake of putting TOO MUCH gear in, your engine is getting out if it's power range before you shift if you have a stock L03.

i am still curious to see his other mods, i gained so much from my gears, its hard to see why people are pulling slower times with theirs.

Sorry took so long to reply,
My other mods are full exhaust 3 inch cat.
Edelbrock tpi headers
Dual snorkel Air.
Not sure what to do next, I wanted to be a mid to low 14 second
car without a motor swap, but that might turn out to be the best way.

im just surprised that you were running 15.2s with only headers, cat back, and dual snorkle. Im only running that with way more mods.

I was surprised too, I was expecting mid 15's that night I ran 3 times that night w/ two 15.4's and 1 15.2 w/ a 2.2 60.
Heres a link to the time slips https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=152851
After looking at them i see my best 60 was a 2.295 so my 60 is nearly 2 10/s faster, So like everyone say's I am getting out of my power band too fast.
I guess gears and posi are not a good bang for the buck for a pretty much stock LO3

Try shifting sooner and keeping it in the power band, it will still pull thru the gears quicker.
