84 l69 4bbl carb or 88 TBI

Hello,

I happen to have an extra TBI handy and will be buying a 84 Z28 here in the next few days with the l69. What will make more power right off the bat? Keep the l69 4bbl or go with the TBI? TBI is freshly built with turbo city injectors, injector spacer, ultimate TBI stuff. What do you think?

Any particular reason? More power out of the quadrajet than the TBI?

Because it is already set up for a carb. If you went to tbi you will have to have a tbi wiring harness and tbi ecm and all the sensors, new distributor and fuel pump. You do the math.

I already have all of that. It would come from my 88 camaro, so would be a simple switch, but would keep the carb if it made more power. Just wondering.

I would also say to just stick with the carb. It's just going to be a fruitless hassle to install a TBI on there. You may get better gas mileage if it's tuned properly but in the performance department they are both stock setups, you aren't going to notice a power difference between either I think.

Well, the reason I ask, is that the l69 made 190hp, while the l03 made 170hp. Is the 20hp difference in the heads? the injection system? Cam? It just seemed to me that if the power was made in the other parts of the engine other than the injection system that maybe by putting on a TBI it could get some more power. Like I said, it wouldn't cost me anything to do it.

It's still alot of work for little or no gain. I think that with the same mods the carbed engine will respond better and be easier to tune. Just my opinion.
