305tbi engine rebuild question

Ok guys here is my question... My buddy has an 88 trans am with the 305 tbi in it, just the other week a rod bearing went in it so now it has to be rebuilt. Now before you say anything about ditching the 305 or anythihg like that dont bother, he wants to rebuild his 305, so with that said my question is whether a 350 crank for the 87-95 350 truck engines will work in his engine, or will the only crank that will work be the 305 lo3 crank? I have never installed a new crank in a car so im not really sure how this works, or if this would work or not, please give me a little help here. Second my question is does anyone know where to get a decent priced crank, the 350 it will will work or the 305 crank? let me know, thanks guys

Why put a 350 crank in it, unless it's free, I think there is a slight difference in how they are balanced, I don't think I would attempt it without having it rebalanced, other than that they are the same, you can get the correct 305 crank kit for about $175.00 with bearings.

The only reason i am asking is because i have found a few places who sell the cranks for the 350, but not for a 305, or at leats they arent posted in theri catalogs or ads. The 350 cranks are around $100 just for the crank, anyone else have any clue about this, help me out guys, we need to order this thing asap, its my buddies daily driver and he is renting a car until we can get this thing finished for him. Thanks in advance

The 350 crank will fit fine but you will probably have a slight vibration. There are special weighted pistons that are available or you need to have the rotating assembly balanced.

A vibration doesn't sounds very good at all, does anyone know where i can find a cheap 305 crank? Also i may be talking him inot going to a 350 if we can find a 350 block cheap enough, but here's another question i need answered... Will a pre 1987 block that is non roller be able to be converted over to a roller engine? What i was thinking about doing was installing all of the roller components from him engine onto the 350 if that is possible, and i have a set of L98 heads that i could put on the block for him, and a used LT4 cam. So is this possible, or are the pre 87 blocks completely different? Let me know guys, thanks Maybe we can get this kid some more hp
