454 TBI Mods

Read the tbi mods on the main page, really only mod I see is the throttle plate shaft things on the 454 tbi. That gold irridite ring isnt on mine. Anyway, Im retrofitting my truck to a 496 stroker w/ edelbrock EFI system, and it reuses the stock TBI minus the injectors, to simply flow air. Im wondering what can I cut out, remove, grind, etc. to give me more air flow and more performance? Thanks. K20

Go to www.454ss.com. Look in the gallery section for Jim Dickie's truck.

Jim modifies the TB from 2.0 inch bores to 2.2 inch bores. He also installs thinner throttle blades and shaft. His email is listed there so you can contact him.

I switched over to one of his TB's, but I use the stock injector location.

When I installed the modified TB with an Extrude honed, I knocked almost 4 tenths off of my ET!

Another item you need to consider. Not all of the 454 TB's can be modified in this way. There are different casting thicknesses between early and later models. What year is the TB you have? If you can't determine if you have a thick or thin casting, you can send Jim a photo of the bottom of the TB for verification.

Any other questions, just ask.

BTW, what are you going to do with your stock injector pod and injectors?

Bill
