Bad idle and check engine light
The other day I start my car and it ran fine , I pulled out of my neighborhood and drove down the street about a half mile and when I stopped at a light I hear this hissing sound under the hood and my check engine light comes on and the engine starts to die, so I keep my foot on the gas a little so it will idle and drive it back home, as I am accelerating the light is off but as soon as I stop I hear the hissing and the light comes on and it wont idle without me having my foot on the gas , I always hear about everyone pulling codes,I was wondering what tool yall use to pull the codes how to do it and where i can get it , I appreciate any input yall can give me , Thanks.

tools: paper clip and a code chart. thats it.
Just short pins A + B (two upper right pins) in the ALDL connector with the key in the on position and the computer will flash the stored codes.Theres a tech article on this as well. Go ahve a look.

oh, the hissing is either a vacuum hose slipped off or the ecm opening the IAC to keep the engine from stalling. Both will make a loud hiss/wistle from my experience.
Same thing happened to me when the TPS's wires melted and shorted on each other. Kept throwing a code 22 even though the
TPS was just fine.
(TPS = Throttle position sensor)
Had to keep my foot on the gas to keep engine running.
Was smoking black
Braking with my left foot (*** bless autos

UPDATE
Alright I started it today and it idled like crap, I drove it around and the second I stopped the check engine light came on again. As I accelerated the car would studder. so I pulled into my driveway and it barely idled I popped the hood and begain revving it a little at the throttle body so I could here the hissing sound , its just the sound of air being sucked into throttle body. So I pulled the tps and the car starts idleing real high like 1500 rpms, and I plug it back in and the car dies. I start it back up and it idles fine and the check engine light is off I drive it and it runs fine , I guess it just need to warm up. I am letting cool down now so I can see how it runs cold. Also demented where is the aldl at , Sorry I have almost no experience with computer controlled cars I try not to mess with electronics.I am real old school. Thanks guys

sounds like it might be time to get a new tps. You really should get the codes. Just insert the bent paperclip into the connector and the computer will flash them out to you.
