Here's mine with Aluminum L98's, Crane Gold 1.6 roller rockers, Torker II intake, and 2" TBI adapter. It's my best picture in TBI trim.

TBPI (??) air cleaner

Thanks for the compliments-

The air cleaner (plastic part that actually sits on the TBI unit) is from a 93 Caprice (that I got the 350 from).
I cut the front half of the Caprice air cleaner off and built a plenum using sheet steel that would transition from the rectangle shape on the Caprice air cleaner to the oval shape required for the stock TPI flex hose.
A little measuring and a little time. It would not have been possible for me without access to a sheetmetal brake and my friends mig welder.

This setup pulls cold air from in front of the radiator, uses all stock computer inputs and clears my stock hood. The main reason I had to do this is that the Vortec TBI manifold was a little taller than stock and the Caprice air cleaner (in stock form) was hitting my hood insulation.

I left the air cleaner on when I took it to the track and had a best of 13.81 @ 100.02 mph. I did not try running without an air cleaner. I like to drive it to the track, race it and drive it home. No wrenching of any kind at the track. That is my idea of a daily driver street car.

Nice!
SC- did you notice any significant change in body flex after installing the strut brace?

Also- concerning the 275 tires in back, do they rub the outer lip of the wheel well? Did you stay with total stock backspacing of 5.5"?
I have my car lowered as well, with 17x9 wheels, but only 245s on the rear (and front). After a trip to the dragstrip, I see it may help to put more rubber in contact with the road.
Any info appreciated-

I saw an incredible difference in stiffness in the front end. The front end on these cars are way to long to be left unsuported. I actually had a little body/frame flex because the car hooked so well. I didn't even have my subframes on yet. I really recomend that stut tower brace. I held the integrity of the car together when i wrecked it to. Could have been a lot owrse if it weren't for that brace.

As for the tires. I have 275/40/17 in the rear without any rubbing at all. That is on a 9" wide wheel too. This is also with stock shocks and Eibach Sportlines (which are a serious drop). Honestly I really can't remeber what the backapcaing was because when I bought the wheels they had a Part Number for these wheels on a thirdgen specifically. I know another guy who has a 91 RS with an LS1 rear end and stock SS 17x9 wheels with the same size tire and he doesn't have rubbing issues at all either. He has the sportlines as well. A 275 tire hooks very well with a mild set-up. My roomate has the same tires on his 2002 SS and he doesn't have a problem with traction too bad.

novadk13,

You should put an open element on there to complement your headers. You are choking that thing. Your car will respond quit nicely and you should feel a serious power increase with one.

I don't have any in-car engine shots scanned. But
here is the replacement for my 305 which had 220,000 miles (350 TBI).

I bought one (Edelbrock for TBI/carb.) but in the rush to get it I didn't check that it wouldn't fit on cars with the A/C on the driver's side... does any one want to buy it? $120 takes it!

You may want to get it now why you are saving for the other stuff. You can get one at autozone for like 15 bucks.

heres my pride and joy, i wish i had some more recent pics of it, now there has been a complete smog and a/c removal, some repainting, more polishing, and more performance inside, but u cant see those things unfortunately by the way if anyone is interested in the fully polished a/c parts i have them for sale and i will take any reasonable offer, unfortunately the camaro is also for sale too, i love it, but for now i need to make the sacrifice, $6500obo
