350 replacement

I have 150k on my 93 350 TBI, time for rebuid or new motor. I have searched the archives but come up empty. Is there a proven recipe to build 300hp 400 torque with a TBI? I am NOT convinced that TPI is always better but the cost of upgrading a TBI is about as much as switching to a used TPI. Anyway how does this sound:

-headers $400
-vortec 330HO crate motor $2300
-singleplane manifold w/tbi adapter $200
-454 tbi with 80lb injectors $200
-upraged fuel pump $150
-100hrs DIY tuning/Prom burning $300
$3550
Or

-headers $400
-rebuilt TPI heads $600
-rebuild short block $800
-LTI cam $200
-singleplane manifold w/tbi adapter $200
-454 tbi with 80lb injectors $200
-upraged fuel pump $150
-100hrs DIY tuning/Prom burning $300
$2800

Both options sound good. The 330HO motor has been proven good with tbi by a few people. Only problem I see is the single plane manifold-you may not reach your torque goals as the 330hp crate engine makes 380lbs/tq with a dual plane-you would lose torque with the single plane. The single plane manifold is also unproven with tbi for the most part, though it is much talked about. It would be beneficial to see you experiment with a single plane, but if you are looking for solid, proven numbers, then go with a duel plane like the edelbrock performer.

right now www.sdpc2000.com is selling a vortec 350 crate engine that makes 330HP and 404 ft-lbs of torque for $2150 and it is has a roller cam instead of a flat tappet like the 330HO GM motor. It is one of their custom crate engines. (they dynoed it with open headers and a 625cfm carb)

IMO I would not rebuild the 305. It will be easier to achieve your power #'s with a 350. If you had a 305 that was a good motor then I would stay with a 305, but since you are talking rebuild or crate, the crate engine is the best way to go.
