My TBI needs a little more *****...

As you can tell by my name, I own a 1988 Camaro SC with the 305 Throttle Body Injection and a 4-speed automatic that it came with from the factory. And even though this car turns heads with its unique black/gold color scheme and the 3" Flowmaster, (sans cat) exhaust system, it's just not fast enough... not nearly fast enough. Now, I really don't want to go out and drop some large cash on a Tuned Port Engine, so basically- which is the best bang for my buck? Do these TBI engines really have potential, and would a rebuild be a good idea? Or should I just scrap it, splurge on a 350 TPI? I have some Camaro knowledge, but not nearly as much as most of the guys here- which is why I need your opinions! Please, your help is needed.

This is a subject often talke about. There are many different opinions on it . It all depends on your budget really . I think that the 305 tbi is just not worth putting money into , but if your on a tight budget and cant afford a 350 swap then there are a few things you can do to get some $hit and get out of it . I would get some headers to go along with your cat back , Get a nice intake manifold I would say go performer RPM if you get that you wont have egr and youll have to have it burned out of your computer or get a custom chip, and open element K&N filter,3.73 gears and posi, and a holley 670 cfm throttle body. Then build up your suspension and youll easily be in the 14's with proper tuning. Or you can drop a 350 in which I would suggest if you have the money.I wouldnt do TPI because I hear its a tough conversion so heres my idea for keeping the tbi. Youll need to get the holley 670,a 350 chip , knock sensor and esc module, to get it running perfectly and performing right . Then you do all the mods I listed here and your breaking 13's very easily. I think its just more worth it to get the 350 theres alot more tuning involved but its worth it in the end I am running mid 14's with my mods and I havent even really started hopping my car up yet . Good luck.

if you are on a tight budget or just want to get it done as soon as possible you could get things to go on your 305 that would also work on a 350. then when you get money or time to do a 350 swap you would have all the expensive stuff out of the way.
