I am done with this crap...EGR...gone!

I am sick and tired of searching and searching for an EGR to fit on my Holley 300-64 manifold....I am giving up on this puppy and just going to get on the prom burning bandwagon and just delete it from the ECM....block the EGR off and just put the old one on there incase I get pulled over for a "visual smog test"

Now....I will be making the cable tonight...and hopefully getting some data by the weekend.....so I have something to "look at". Now....once I have some data.....how do I go about 1) deleting the EGR from the ECM and 2) reading/adjusting other things to "optimize the car".

I know I need a burner/eraser...but I want to get an idea as to what i will be doing/looking for before I actually do it.

Thanks,
Dave

go to the diy-prom board and start reading... lots and lots of great info there... do a search on egr and a ton of stuff will come up - i'm gonna have to do the same when i put the 400 in, along with some other stuff, i'm sure... what's holding me back right now is finding a serial adapter for my laptop... nobody in london seems to have anything.

yeah, been here for a long time... the 400 is in progress... dealing with some issues and making some decisions so that when it goes in, it goes in... figuring out what i need for intake/tbi/computer, etc... i've heard from a few folks that with my combo the stock setup will let it run, although not close to its potential... i'm figuring now that a 350 tbi and the 8746 ecm with the caprice cop car chip (or prominator... ) will be an ok starting point on my way to a 12 second tbi...

Nice one man......geez look like I just Hi-Jacked my own thread. I went by my local parts place today and chatted with "my parts guy" who I have sucked up to for like the last 4 years.

Well.....he assures me he can find one to work etc....so I dropped the manifold off at his place and he is going to go "searching" tomorrow. I asked him where would he search...and he said...oh I am just going to call Holley....I was like good luck man...but if you do manage to figure it out you are the man rob....we will soon see tomorrow...ha ha ha

Regardless 88305 are you into prom burning etc yet???/ If so I wouldnt mind hooking up one afternoon to see your set-up etc and what some real world data looks like....I will bring beer!!!

naw, i'm not doing any burning yet... without the serial adapter i can't read anything so there's no point tuning... and with the 8063 ecm i've got in the '88, i don't have an ecu file anyway. i'll be getting an 8746 ecm when the swap happens (or before) and hopefully the prominator will be ready to ship by then so i won't have to invest in chips/burner/etc.

the egr is actually an easy fix - set the 'on' temp to it's highest point. since it will never reach that temp, it will never turn on and throw codes.

Be careful about that. The EGR cts lookup is looking at the inverse table so if using TC or my ecu file you actually want to set it to the lowest point which is infact the highest temp.

so in GMECMEdit, the EGR On (Temp) constant, which gives me a range of -40.0* to 151.25* should be set at -40 to disable EGR? or should i be setting that elsewhere?

I can't remember what I did if you're using my ecu file. I'm in need of some computer parts and moving into my appartment. I'll look into it as soon as I can.
