4bbl Carb to TBI Modification?
Anyone modified a 4bbl carb with injectors. Basically making it a progressive throttle body with 4 injectors. Darn the 4bbl throttle body adapters are expensive in the 400-500 dollar range. So looking for a low cost mock up. Needs to have stock vaccuum settings though so the ecm will work correctly. Holley has a nice 4bbl setup if you can just get the tb and injectors. Thats in the $600 dollar range.
I've noticed that on the injectors that come with the standard tbi unit can be configured seperatly from throttle body. Maybe possible to mount them in the a 4bbl carb. Add a throttle position sensor and and ecm programming. second channel for the additional injector control.
Looking for one to pick up at the junkyard...

from the sounds of that thats alot of work. just buying the HOlley setup you can control fuel with a laptop and many other things as well. or just buy a used 4bbl 454 tbi thats got the 2" bores and buy the computer & harness with it and go from there.

I don't think it would be hard to modify a rochester 4bbl to work with fuel injectors. Basically remove all the guts "have dremel tool will travel
"
Take two sets of tbi carbs and cut the injector housing from the pressure regulator and put a threaded barb on it. Do this for 2 sets of injectors and relocate the pressure regulator somewhere else. With the two holes left you should be able to mount it on the trottle body of the 4bbl. Here's a pic

Well I think I'm going to watch ebay for a holley projection unit. I'm not going to pay $500 for a new one when you can get used one's for under 200. Although it would be interesting to modify a rochester 4bbl. Since I'm building my own ecm I don't need the controller. I even thought of putting a servo on the secondaries so the computer can open them and close them. Probally have to do that with the holley 4b secondary's anyway if I'm not going to run those injectors constantly.

i saw a couple of those used ones going for cheap. I wanted to get one but each of the ones i saw selling had the garbage mopar injectors. Whatever you do, make sure the unit you buy has the delphi injectors.

From the pictures it looks like they are the same injectors that comes on our tbi engines. I have a few of those, are those the junk ones your talking about. LOL
AZcamarophreak I thought those 454's only had two injectors. If they have four then it's off to the u-pull-it. What truck models did they come on. I saw one on ebay and it said 454 but only had 2 barrels.

teh 454 units onlt had 2 barrels like the 262/305/350 tbis. each barrel is two inches in dia. The good holley injectors are the delphi units that are about half the size of the standard injectors and have a 90 degree two pin plastic female weather pack connector on them. those are the delphi units. the larger ones that just ahve two pins sticking out of them and are about teh same size as teh stock tbi injectors are the junk mostly old parts and rust (aka mopar) injectors. they are known for their poor spray pattern and tendancy to leak. There's a 900cfm holley tbi on ebay, it has bad injectors, just wondering if the standard injectors will work in it. Like I need a 900cfm carb LOL. There's also a new 700cfm. Here's the link to the 900

i dont think theyre interchangable so youd probably be stuck with them. All the tuning youd do probably would be moot if you used it since teh injectors would leak and give poor fuel distribution.
i really like that second one. Its a more practical version of the half assed accel dfi one that i saw floating around not too long ago

Which GM ECM would you use to fire the second link?
What size injectors for 475hp?
If it all worked out, you could do one of these for about the same price as a Holley 950 TBI. BUt it would be all custom. Especialy the tuning.
How can you tell if it's a Mopar injector?

Check out this link for a Megasquirt custom ecm
http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
Depending on the specifications of the injectors (Ohm value) you might be able to run them in parallel off of the stock computer. But all the injectors would be firing, with a 500hp motor that might not be a problem at idle, but some people have had trouble with that.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't got around to a search for it yet. I would like timing control too though. But not necessary. I think this setup would look very Hot. And most people would have zero clue about it.
