need help-- car wont start

Heres the info- 305 tbi - just finished the front suspension and took my car to firestone to get alignment. car would start and run fine. drove it home, then the next day w/ no probs. today the car starts and dies, cranks but does not start. the guy @ the shop said my fuel filter needs top be changed out as suggested scheduled maintenace.????? I checked my fuses (under dash), i have 1/2 tank of gas, so im stuck. If the gas pedal is pressed do the injectors spray fuel? I may just change the fuel filter this weekend and see if it works. if any one has any info or suggestions please let me know asap (carless) thanks yall.

your fuel pump fuse should be at the front of your passenger side fender, in the engine compartment . but sure change your filter thats always a good idea. also check to see if you're getting fire.

pull out a spark plug, put the wire back on it, set it on metal, and crank the engine and watch. youll see a spark or you wont see a spark.

okay pull your coil wire off at the coil and see if it arcs. if not then, its one of three things or combo- the pickup(inside the distributer)
the ignition modual(inside the dist.) your coil- hopefully we could get some other opinions today in case im missing something, but i think ive just about covered it- i think

i was missing something, it could also be your ignition switch. get a haynes manual, cause if i told you where your ignition switch is, you probably wouldnt believe me anyway. on top of your steering collum about mid way down.

thanks for all the info everyone. i learned some new things. my Niehoff ignition module was the culprit (once again)! It was only 6 mos old or so. this time i went with the nascar one, from good ol checkers. I had the cap and rotor relpaced as well (nascar).we'll see how this stuff holds up. once again thanks for the info.

My module just went out also - it was an Accel module from Summit, about 2 years old. Always use AC/Delco electroincs whenever you can, for me, the third gens seem to respond better with them than aftermarket brands.

Sounds to me like the timing chain or distributor went south on you.
