Timing Advance ?

What's up all? Extreme nubie here, but only to this board, not to the genre. I'm on my 4th 3rd gen, a black '83 T/A with a crossfire 305. I was wondering if anyone could tell me, from experience, what kind of increases are to be expected from advancing the timing on a stock crossfire about 4 degrees... I know about detonation and all that from advancing timing, not a problem for the small amount of advance I want, I run 93 octane as a rule. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanx Guys!

Not much power but better throttle response, smoother idle and potentially better mileage.

Whoo hoo!

Ahhh, the wonderful sound of someone saying the words "You'll get better gas mileage." Best I've seen yet for a full tank was 165 mi. and that was taking it easy for the whole tank just to see what I could get with 93 octane!!! Sux for me...

Now don't get to excited. We are talking small numbers here. You should be getting a little better mileage than that.

Yeah, I know. That's only like 13-14 mpg, and it wasn't all city some of it was 70mph on the highway with cruise on... Sad... I'm running the whole gammut with it this week, full tune up, oil change to 5w-30 synthetic blend, advance timing to 6 degrees now that I've done some reading, and hope for the best. Do I have a fuel filter on a crossfire, other than the injector screens? Thanx!

i think someone on here was claiming like 14-16 hp with timing advance on a stock LO3. i didnt feel a whole lot of difference, just SOTP. perhaps it was just the placebo effect though.

Yes you have a fuel filter. I am no sure on a crossfire car but it is on the driver side right behind the driver area on other thirdgens so I would imagine it is in the same area.
