Good times and #'s. It also shows how with very ltitle work, an L03 can pull way past the so called 4000 rpm wall that everyone talks about. I dropped .5 tenths shifting at 5000 rather than 4400 rpm. TBI has no problem making upper rpm power like tpi does.

The L03 actually has a lot of potential. I ran 15.7 @ 91.44mph with out even lifting a valve cover on the old 305. Only mods at the time were msd ignition, aluminum driveshaft, 3.73s and posi, and full exhaust (albiet crappy single 2.5"), open element w/ fram filter, and a reletively untuned chip. That was shifting at 5,000rpm as well (t-56).
Crazy thing is, those are awesome times, yet you still have "big" mods you can do. I really think that an intake swap and headers will bring your traps up at least another 3-4mph. After that, a higher stall will help improve those those times given you hook up.
Keep up the good work!
My next goal before jumping the "big mod" train is to get my torque curve to flatten up a bit. As I hit HP peak I lose 50 ft/lb of torque. I think if I can get it to go more level until I hit that air flow wall (intake/heads/cam) I can pull it close to the 190-195 hp mark.
No doubt that the headers are the next big thing. The ability to get the exhaust out quicker rather than its current state of forcing air out the exhaust should bring the torque up in the mid range 3000-4000 rpm. You can see how the slope drops dramatically on hp after 3200 rpm. This more than anything is the exhaust holding it back. Bringing the hp slope up should really affect the times and mph. with my hp peak now at 4800, I'm only crossing at the 4000 rpm mark. There is plenty of room here to work with. For the stock cam, I think 3.23 gears are perfectly suited.
A 200 HP fairly stock LO3 doesn't seem quite out of reach now does it?

when i added headers to mine it really woke up the top end alot. you loose a bit down low but i think that its well work it. my ca with stock cam/ heads untouched goes good until around 5k or so and the headers made a huge differance from about 4k to 5k. I wish i could get my car dyno'd to give you some numbers, but youll be really happy promise.

I find it amazing that you have such little hp to the rear wheels(considering your ET's)....I would've thought you'd have more.
Not MUCH more..but 178 isn't insane or anything...
It might sound like I'm bad-mouthing your car or something...I'm not, I just find it amazing that you can get it down there so quick with so little improvement.
Basically, that's frickin awsome.

Good numbers, I can't believe you're getting that on cast manifolds. If you guys remembered, I got 178 RWHP and 271 RWTQ on the stock cam, heads, intake and TBI. I'm glade Slade is backing up my numbers. I ran 14.7s @ 93 mph with this combo.
Personally I think the cam is more limiting to upper RPM power than anything else. The penut cam is tiny, I think acceptable lash limits in solid lifters is similar to what actual lift the peanut cam makes.
Just a warning, once you change the cam, chip tuning is neccessary. I lost a lot of torque below3400rpm and gained after that. (search for my dyno graphs on this forum)
If I were you, I'd do the headers, then intake manifold and suspension/tire to get that thing run mid 14s at 94-96 mph with stock long block and street tires. I'd wait and do the heads and cam at the same time that you plan on spending some serious money on the engine.

Thats Amazing! You have given me hope. I don't drive a F-Body, but I don't see why I couldn't be pulling the same numbers as you. My mods are in my sig, and I have alot planned this month. I've been tring to get 1/4 mile numbers on my car for the past 10 weeks, but it has rained every Friday since I have tried. Ifs raining now but looks to clear up around 2 or 3 so Racing at 8pm maybe possible. Thanks for the good info.

then there's the "magic run" that comes out of nowhere. i was at the georgia fbody association shootout the weekend before last. there was a kid there with a stock tpi camaro that i ran against half a dozen times during time trials. he ran 15.80s and 15.90s all day. then, out of nowhere, he ran a 15.50. he couldn't figure out why and couldn't duplicate it. it just happened.

I just ran my Caprice with the mods listed last Friday and turned 15.1@89+ mph. I really wonder why your ET's arnt lower.
Traction? The tires will spin and the rear will worm on me on launch (that is really funny sounding coming from a 305 TBI now that I think about it). It's not as dramatic as a torque beast like a 383 stroker doing it, but it does it long enough to really hurt my 60 ft times. I stuck my 15's with winter tires back on a day ago and got them to chirp on the 1-2 shift. Mind you though the 15's are aftermarket rims and are lighter than my stock 16 rims so I freed up some torque and lost a bit of traction from the size drop 245->215. I'm tempted to take it to the track with these tires, but I don't want to buy new winter tires.

where you're running can make a big difference, too, though. i took my car to atlanta dragway right after getting the 3.42 posi installed. after experimenting, i found that 25 lbs in the rear tires and launching at 2300 rpm worked best.
two days later, i took it to silver dollar dragway in reynolds, ga and had more grip than i could handle. i ended up running 36lbs in the rear tires, backing off the timing 2 degrees and launching at 2500 rpm. the car still bogged, but had the best 60' times ever.

p.s. your problems aren't in the launch, anyway. while 60' times with street tires in the 2.0 range are most desirable, 2.2s aren't bad and are pretty typical of cars in your hp/torque range. my best so far is a 2.87.
where you're booming is the mph. i was at 82-83 mph before the gear/posi swap. now i'm at 84-85. 93 mph out of your l03 is great.
