I drive a 92' camaro RS with a 305 tbi. I'm setting up and buying some parts for my winter mods for next summer. I got new gears (3.42, instead of my stock 2,73) I want to advance the timing but i fugur i could get the chip and it would do it for me along with its other perks. The question is can i advance my timing my self and put the chip on, im guessing prob not. And what do u guys recomend advancing the timing my self or get the chip?

 

Advance the timing and save your money on the chip. Off the shelf chips are so close to the stock prom they aren't worth the money. Even you scored a free one you want to keep your base at timing at zero. Most aftermarker chips are set to run with zero base. If I were you I would set my timing to 4 or 6 degrees base. That is what the typical stock LO3 likes.

 

im running the tbichips Stage 1 and 8* advanced timing with the mods in my sig. I gained a tenth at the track when i went from 2* to 6* (w/ Stage 1 chip) and then i gained alittle more than 2 tenths with 1.6 rocker arms and 2 more degrees of timing. I did the chip at the same timing as my gears and pullies so i dont know how much it actually helped.

 

I am using a stage one and i have advanced my timing by 6 degrees and it seems to be perfect.
