Cranks then dies!

I just completed the rebuild (everything) of my 89 TBI 305, but when I start it, it runs for a second then dies. I can see the injectors spray gas at startup, then nothing and when it begins to die they spray again but not enough or soon enough to keep it running. If I remove the throttle position sensor and work it by hand I can keep it running, as long as I keep moving it enough to make the injectors spray. Any ideas?

My '89 Formula has been having the same exact problem since summer of '02. Still cant figure it out..... I have taken my car to FI specialists and still have had no luck. My car went from 16.2's to 16.7's in the quarter after the problem started... It drives me crazy... If you cure it, post the awnser please, Thanks
Ben

The more I read on the VATS, the more I think it is the culprit. I had bypassed the relay behind the left kick panel by grounding one side of the coil in it and thought I had the problem solved, but I have found out VATS sends a signal to the computer thats controls the injectors!
The Trickster seems to know more about this than I, maybe we can get his assistance!
I still have the same VATS system and key as always and have checked the amount of resistance of the key straight up to the VATS module...all seems to be fine.

Moving the TPS, Isn't that the same as working the throttle? Have you checked the fuel pressure? Sounds like the same problem I was having with my 88 305 Formula. Start and die, Start and die. If i did it enough I could get it to stay running, but it wasn't very good. Pressure was only 7 1/2 lbs, and a new pump fixed it.
