low rpms's! it turns off
i have a 1992 firebird 350 tbi, the rpm's are low, it idle's inconsistently, and when i pop it in reverse it sometimes turns off, and also when i am driving at low speeds 5mph etc and it surges when i'm at a red light...and i already cleaned the tbi, and i cleaned the idle air control valve, i also changed the spark plug's and the cables, i flushed the radiator, i checked for anything loose!...so i am completley lost!.
a mechanic that i ran into told me that it might be the computer? he didnt look at my car, it was only verbal. well the previous owner swapped the 305 for a 350, and i wonder if i need to change the prom???? or something down there? well i would appreciate any advice i can get, i will try anything at this point,
thanks for your help!-jorge :hail:

I kinda had te same problem with my old S-10 blazer It had originally a 4.3 v-6 then he put a 305 in it just before i bought it I have no clue how he did it But every once in a while it would stall out or run a lil rough i'd just shut it off and start it again and it worked fine. I dunno if he used the same computer but it worked fine just every once in a while it would do the same thing

you might try hooking up a scanner of some sort, to see what the computer is seeing. chances are if he put a 350 in and did no chip work, taht is where the problem is, but you won't really know until you see what the computer see's.
i fixed it!
well, i took it to get it checked out, and the guy ended up putting it on the scanner, then he got a malet and a screw driver and put the screwdriver in a whole on the front of the tbi, then he turned it clockwise, and then he told me to try it out and it felt like new! i slammed it hard for about 15 minutes, i changed gears, slammed it on reverse and it worked like new! so i guess it was a timing adjustment!, its amazing how simple things can screw up your ride big time!, well i wanna thank all you guys for hooking me up! i really appreciate it!
