Question for you TBI pro's.

I've tossed the idea of building my 305 up due top the fact that I've come across a small block 400 w/ edelbrock heads already on it for $200.

Now, my question is, do you think that I'll be able to keep a TBI setup on my motor with the 400 built-up pretty well?

According to a few friends and desktop dyno, when I'm done with it, it should push roughly 450hp/tq. I've read in a few diff. places that the Holley TBI can only max out at 400hp. Is this true?

Any imput is appreciated .

I would go with a bigger throttle body that stock. Maybe one off of a 454.
Those are some pretty awesome times that you are running with your 305, how many rpm's does your car shift at? Ive have my tranny rebuilt and it not shifting right, i think thats my problem.

I'd say a 400 sbc with aftermarket heads pushing 450 hp/tq is into 4 barrel tbi range. Look into the 4 barrel setups and maybe a Commander 950.

I believe it was shifting at about 5700-6000 rpm's. I know, I know....it's REALLY high...but for some reson when you nail it to the floor in my car it doesn't like to shift. But normal shift points under heavy acceleration are like 5200rpm's. (heavy acceleration being floored, but not pushing so hard you might put a hole in the floorboard)

I was looking at those...but they're too damn expensive. I'm prolly gonna end up going with a carb unless I can find a 4bbl system really cheap.

You could find a 4 barrel TBI on Ebay for pretty cheap then use the stock ECM with a separate injector driver board for the 2 extra injectors. Do a search on that on the DIY-Prom Board you'll come across some good threads on that. Look at r90Camarors's 383 setup. He has the strongest, most powerful setup using a 2bbl Holley TBI setup so that may show you what its capable of. It's going to take a lot of tuning whatever way you go.

I did a little searchin on ebay and found a 900cfm holley 4bbl TBI for $225. Think thats a good price?

Also, in the auction the guy said you HAVE to have the holley ECM. Is that true?
