like any other SBC, hook up your timing light, let the car idle, turn the distributor until the the timing mark is at the point where you want it.

magnetic timing probe socket ?????
the timing on TBI cars is set to 0* from the factory, to tell you the truth, sitting here at work, which way you turn the dizzy is escaping my mind, i want to say clockwise will retard, counter-clockwise will advance. but my mind isn't working that well right now.

yea the magnetic timing probe socket if you read the manual or a chiltons the is a special tool your suppost to use if you look down at the damper and you see the marks that are used to set the timing there is a slot for it to go in but i dont know if it is really neccessary

i have never heard of that. what year are you looking at?
just use your timing light, and you will see the timing mark. nothing more too it, other than disconecting the ESC.

and remeber to unplug the ESC, if you time it with that plugged in, you will be running like 18-20* RETARDED.

dewey is right, counterclockwise=advance, clockwise=retard. i dont think it matters if the car is running or not when you unplug the esc. ive done it while the car is running and when it is not. as far as that hole for the probe, ignore it, it means nothing to you. or anyone else for that matter

To set timing hook up your timing light with the magnetic pickup on the #1 spark plug wire, start the car and let the idle smooth itself out (it's easier to start the car with the ESC connected, but it doesn't really matter). Disconnect the ESC and hop on the radiator support and fire away. From the top, CCW is advance and CW is retard. Reconnect your ESC and you're good.
Edit: Just saw you guys posted the same thing...err what they said!
