caprice 9C1 engine

hey guys

i have recently gotten hold of a 350 TBI out of a 93 caprice 9c1
did those engine recieve the junnk heads and ****ty cam as the lo3 did? how about using the manifolds are they worthh anything.

how power did those come from the factory with.

i'm gonna do this engine on a budget. i just want it to have more power than the 305.

so any suggestions for this thing will be greatly appreciated.

The heads, cam and manifolds are not performance oriented in any way.

The highest rating of the 9C1 350's was 205hp.

How much did you pay for it?

How many miles are on it?

IIRC i *think* the only real difference was that the 9C1 came with the L98 cam. Might want to dig around some here to find out for sure. I wouldnt use any part of the stock exaust. Youd be better off with a good set of headers, cat, and cat back designed for another car, such as the tpi f-body with the single 3 in cat and 3 in. exuast.

9c1 l05 engine

long time lurker- first time posting. Ive gotten alot of help from this site with my cop car.

The cam isnt the 'peanut cam' in the l03 or the two l05's (one truck one for the non police b-bodies)
Its like was said above - l98 cam.

Heads are those *** awful swirlport. There's an archived article on here where someone tried to port them and they still were boat anchors.

Intake manifold also sucks.

Swap out the top end and you should be fine. Its a nice roller cam block.

What are your plans for it?

Agreed. That is what I started out with. I discarded the top end and replaced with a comp cam and vortec heads. Took a good bit of programming, though. This setup got me to 13.8 (with suspension work).

SC2- How much are you looking to get out of it? I imagine it could be put in as-is. With headers, it would give some performance increase over the stock 305. All depends on what your goals are........
A good start, either way.

hey guys

thanks for the info guys.

Brent- the motor was from a friend who owns a junk yard. it runs ok and it has around 110k on it i think.

My plans are is over a little bit of time i'm gonna have the engine rebuilt and all before i out it in the car. But i just wanna know what direction i need to be heading to see good performance gains out of this engine. I was not too sure how this engine was outfitted from the factory. so once agin thanks for the info.

do you guys recommend any stock heads that would give any performance over the swirl ports? cause i really hate alum heads

how about thcam is it ok to stay?

If you want stock heads - use vortecs. Fast burns require special pistons.

Can you see from your buddy if you can get your hands on a vortec shortblock instead? It might cut down the cost.

Check this article out about a third gen and a dumpster vortec.
