Sticking with TBI...

I own a 1988 Camaro SC with a 305 TBI and the 4 speed auto. The only mods I've put into the car is 80 series Flowmaster, 3" without a cat, and 2.5" coming out of the muffler. It sounds REAL bad-***... I just need a little 'bite' to back-up my 'bark' now.

Originally, I wanted to swap in a 350 TPI out of an 89-90 Iroc, because I was naiive and looking around on the site made me think that the TPI would give me alot of power. It wasn't until I began reading this message board, (the one I should have been on the whole time, considering my car is TBI) that I smartened up and realized that the TBI really can get good power gains if you do it properly.

My car has 198,000kms on it, not sure how many miles that is... but I'm thinking it's time to put a little cash into the engine. Besides headers, (which the guy at the big-name performance shop around here -MOPAC- told me would cost atleast 550 dollars because I had a TBI and needed Edelbrock?) what do you think would be the wisest way to give my TBI a little more power? A 700 cfm Holley carb? New cam? New fuel pump? I'm inexperienced when it comes to the mechanics of cars, so any input you can give, big or small, would be greatly appreciated!

Do you live outside the US? 198,000kms is 123,000mi's. It really has a lot to do with how much you can afford to spend. As far as first mods I would think headers and a manifold swap would be in order. And at the same time do the ultimate tbi mods and fpr mod.

You don't need edelbrock headers because it is TBI. You can go with about 10 different kinds depending on your budget. Start with the ultime TBI mods and than an open air element. Then get some headers and a high flow cat to complement the rest of your exhaust. Eventually you can get into the bigger mods like intake manifold and cam swap and tuning.

May sound borderline retarded, but what exactly is the "Ultimate TBI mods"?

The ultimate TBI mods are when you cut off the ridge that surrounds your TBI bores and smooth it out. You also cut down the stems on the trottle blades themselves. And to top it off you make your stock fuel pressure regulator adjustable.
