Having problems/ 83 camaro TBI 4 cyl

i have recently purchased a 83 camaro from an auction. it has a 2.5L 4cyl with a single TBI. the problem is it isnt runnig. we sprayed starting fluid into the intake and the car started right up, had good compression, and then died when the fluid ran out. is the fuel pump supposed to run continuously? when i turn on the ignition i dont hear the fuel pump running. i by-passed the wiring and ran power directly to the fuel pump i am getting fuel up to the injector but i cant tell weather there is fuel coming out. i replaced the fuel filter and the strainer on the fuel pump still nothing. i have spark.does the fuel pump have to run through the relay? im lost

Relay and fuse check them both. The fuse is by the battery on the '88-'92 V8 TBI.

Could be a clogged injector. If your looking to get this thing running smoothly you might as well just replace the pump and the injectors, who knows how old they are.

When I rebuilt my TBI, one injector was clogged and no fuel came out of it at all. After I put a new one in it did fine. Don't the 4-Cyl TBI just have one injector in the TBI??? Its very posable its clogged. I gave $64.95 for mine, but it was for a V8 TBI.

re:

i think it was the clogged injector. The fuel pump is new. i got it to start and run for about 2 min. i think i need to replace plugs now, and do some general tuning. eventually i am going to put a 305 or 350 in it but thats later. thanks for you help

lol, you have a LOT of work to do to get that thing ready for the torque of a V8...Good luck though, keep us updated on it!
