Running Rich.

I know that my car has been runing EXTREMELY rich for quite a while now. WinALDL doesn't verify this for some reason though, but you can just smell it and see black smoke from the exhaust when you punch it. I'm just trying to figure out why this is happening, not that it bothers me, but I've always been curious.

The O2 sensor is good and the chip is a hypertech.
If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be appreciated.

I have a similar problem with it running rich... and look at that, I am running a Hypertech Chip as well.

If you bought the stage 1 chip off of ThunderRacing, then I would suggest that you use the hypertech thermostat, or some other lower temp thermo stat to go with it. Because the chip is telling it one thing, and the thermostat is telling it something else.

I am actually taking my car into the shop this weekend to get the running rich problem checked, as well as a 60k mile checkup (I just hit 60,000 miles ) and a coolant leak that needs to be assessed. I'll let you know what he does with the running rich thing. When I was talking to him, he said that there is a possibility that it is a leaky head gasket, but most likely it is the chip. Take out the hypertech and put the stock back in and see what happens... by then I'll know whats going on with mine.

if it started runnign rich with the hypertech, put your stocker in and see if it makes a diffrence. if it doesn't, look into spark and a new o2

Get rid of the hypertech chip. It is pure garbage and some pople have ran slower with it. Return your car to its stock bin and go from there. I bet your problem goes away.

Well, I think the chip helped more than it hurt. Before the mods in my sig, I ran a 16.1 all day long. After the mods I bested a 15.29.

I dunno....maybe I'll just get a WB O2 and go from there with WinALDL.

Thanks guys, and lemme know what happens with your car at the shop man.

Thanks again!
