What conrols the amount of fuel output?

i have a 4cyl TBI. it seems to be putting out too much fuel from the injector, and flooding the engine. with the car running you can see a 'steady' stream coming from the injector. like someone is pouring it out. if i disconnect the wiring to the injector the amount of fuel coming out doubles. so what controls the amount of fuel, and what is the spray pattern supposed to look like? is it supposed to be alot? any thoughts?

The spray pattern should be triangular without any drips or spits. You could have a dirty injector. The computer controls how much fuel it is going to put out but the regulator limits that. I doubt you have a regulator problem but I bet you have a problem than is making the computer send more fuel. Go to an auot parts store and have them scan for codes.

shifty: if the ecy regulates the "pulses" of the injector and engine is shut off would not the injector close up so to speak and not drip residual FP out of injector? it would appear injector is allowing the residual FP past the injector nozzle? so stuck "open" ?

Well it could be hung slightly open due to a small dirt particle. That is why I said there may a cleaning issue. I am not to familiar with the inside guts of a TBI type injector so i am not quite sure what could go wrong in there. I do know that dirt can make fuel drip out and not spray out.

it sounds like some crud got to the injector and is keeping it from fully closing.....

you'll have to take the injector out and either have it cleaned, or get a new one.
