replacing o2 with 3 or 4 wire?

I was reading on an efi site that replacing the stock single wire o2 sensor with a 4 wire heated o2 will better the efficiency/performance as the o2 will always stay at 600degrees and give valid info to the ecm. anyone ever try this and if so do you have a layout as to to how you wired it. I know one lead goes to ground and the other to the ignition +12. another goes to the ecm and the signal ground goes??

also any part #'s for one?

thanks..

It can be done very easily and true that it is more accurate. Probably by a very minute amount but then again it'll never go cold so you don't have to worry too much about it's placement in the exhaust system. That's usually why OEM goes with heated sensors. Besides, I'm pretty sure that the heating element can't keep the sensor at a specefic temperature. I believe it only keeps it from getting too cool. So logically, unless you tune your eprom to go into closed loop a little faster, there really isn't much benifit if any.
Sorry I have no part numbers but pretty much every oxygen sensor is universal. Basic m18x1.5 sensor designed for gasoline stoich. Some special systems might require special sensors like a .550mv 14.7 instead of a .450mv but don't worry about it.
I'm using a heated sensor off of a Ford SHO sedan. Works great.

I've got two 4-wire O2 sensors off of a '97 Z28. Does anyone know how I could install them?

just about any heated O2 sensor will work, im interested in doing this since i will eventualy end up putting the O2 in the y-pipe. Ive looked at Ford sensors and chevy sensor no price difference. Junkyard maybe

I would only use a 4 wire heated O2 if you have long tubes. The stock one will work just fine with shorty headers.

even with uncoated headers?, i got the non-O2 equipt headers and since the car is in near ready to run condition i dont think i can get the O2 sensor welded on with out engine removal. what you see in the product picture isnt what you get. will i still be in an open loop if the 02 gets placed in the y-pipe?

Shouldn't be a problem if you put it close to the header collector.
