upgrades???
Ok heres the deal. I recently won 3000$ so I was thinking "lets put some sweet speed freak upgrades into this TransAm". I already bought my open air element and the car already has headers and a custom hiflow exhaust with hiflow catalytic converter.
I was thinking of dropping a STB as well as SFC to help stiffen up the chassie as well as looking into better flowing heads and maybe a more agressive cam as well as a racing stage 1 chip.
I'd use it for teh stereo however that area is already taken care of. Engine is the only thing that needs parts now. Well any input will be greatly apreciated.

I would spend it on a nice set of wheels and tires and drop the car a bit. You would have enough for that plus the sfc and stb. Heads and cam are nice but they don't get you really far. You may however want to look into getting the GM ho 350 crate motor and going TBI with that. You could also look into starting an LT1 swap project. That would be pretty sweet. If you plan on spedning it all at once get something big. That way you don't have to save up forever in the future to get something of the same caliber. You can always spend a hundred here and there to get the rest of the stuff. That is easy money compaired to 3k.

well I have the GTA gold rims right now...and they are sporting 16" tires...so that should be ok. Are the stock GTA rims real heavy?
Lowering the car might be difficult seeing as the car is already hard for me to get in and out of due to the height it sits at now.
That LS1 swap got me interested. Not sure who I could talk to around here that would do such a project. I am in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Not alot of mod shops up here with decent mechanics that would dare tackle such a task...even if you through loads of coin at them to get the job done. I am gonna look aroudn to see if anyone would be interested in performing such a task. I have 3K to put into it now...but I could get another 7K in about a month no problem. Could make the Bird into quite the race car...

BIGGER ENGINE, BIGGER ENGINE, BIGGER ENGINE!!! thats what pops into my head. If you look around you could probably find a decent crate 350 w/ a good amount of horsepower for less than 2 grand. Throw about two hundred more dollars into getting the things you need to make it work with tbi and you still have plenty of doe to get the subframes and STB. But thats just what I think. Good Luck.

If I had 3k bucks and another 7k coming in a month I'd build up a nice strong 400 block with some AFR heads and maybe a Stealthram or something and probably a T56 behind it. You can do a lot with that kind of money.

I would defiently look into a new rear-end I bought a moser w/ limited slip and 3.73 gears i tried the 3.92's but 3.73 worked better. It was the first real upgrade i did it cut a second off so its a real nice upgrade. Also no one like the famous "one wheel peel"

if you have always wanted a 6spd i wuld spend the 3k on that or if you are happy with the 700r4 you have you can always look at suspension and drive train. dont get me wrong more horses is always good but how much good is it if you cant plant it. and this way you still have cash left over fore somthing els.
just a thought.

I don't know what car parts go for where you are, but for 3K down here you could get yourself a good 350 block, some forged goodies, AND a new tranny. But like others said, more HP aint' always good if you can't get it to the street...

Thats the issue..I would have to look around. Here in north bay there is only one performance enthusiast and he wanted to sell me a CAI and headers for $1000. I checked Ebay nd I can get the headers for easy 300 and teh CAI for about 100 so I know I am getting ripped bad there.
Maybe I will save my coin for the summer when the Barrie Automotive Flee Market comes into play and go get some toys for my TransAm.
Thanks for the input however. Greatly apreciated. I completely forgot about suspension. I am guessing that the struts and springs on this car are the stock ones from 88 and are probably all tired and could use replacing. As for drivetrain...not quite sure what you mean by that.
