Cam Swap Question? Advice needed

Hey all, i am comming into a little bit of money and i am going to buy an intake and cam. I am not sure what cam i should buy. I have done a search and didnt have any luck. Anyways i have never done a cam swap before, does the engine have to come out? If not how will i get clearance to get the cam out and the new one in? And about the intake, I am going to buy one of the edelbrock intakes, maybe the performer RPM, Which would be the best? The last but deffinitly not least, what kind of horsepower and 1/4 mile time gain should i notice from this? thanks alot!

Try a search in the TBI forum for "LT1 cam." Also look at the top of this page. You could read for days. You will see that the LT1 cam is about the most popular cam out there because of its cheap price and ease of tunability. There is a lot more you need to be aware of before you add an intake and cam. You have to make sure you can supply your new combo with enough fuel and you have to be willing to burn your own chips to dial it in. Many cammed LO3's run slower than stock because of un-willingness to tune. Depending on your tune you could run anywhere from 16's to 14's. TBI's are all over the map when it comes to ET's. It is up to you to tune and not be a victom of a 16 second heads and cammed 305.

So a LT1 cam will be the best way to go? Because i dont want something to major, just something mild for street use. Should i go with something like comp or crane? i did a search but cant really find what im looking for.

Yes the LT1 cam is a great street mannored cam. You could always go with a crane or comp cam but they are much more expensive. A used LT1 cam will do you good. What exactly are you looking for in your searches. What exactly are your questions? You should find trillions of posts on cam stuff.

Well I am glad that you are getting into it. You could call an get an off the shelf one that is close to your set-up. it is not the way to go but will allow you to run your car with normal drivabilty. You really have to ask around and see if anyone is willing to help you. I wouldn't go beggin on the boards but a few PM's here and there may get you some results. I would stick to a base one from tbichips or fastchips.

Yeah, I don't know if you have tried the "search" button yet, but you can find trillions of threads on this stuff. Especially the "what should I see in # gains?" question. Gets asked quite a bit. Like Shifty said, you'll be reading for days, maybe even weeks. Good luck!!
