I far as I know it's a last line of defense to keep trash out of the injector. Filter screen at fuel pump, then a inline filter, then a screen at the injector.

ok so I guess I shouldn't use them without.. reason being is I sent my cores back to this guy www.cleaninjectors.com and he sent me two replacments that have been flow matched and cleaned and all that good stuff. he sent me new screens on the bottom and all the gaskets but one of them is missing that little round screen on the side..
