smog pump
hey guys. i had a 305 tbi and i am just about done with my 350 swap. my question comes in about the smog pump
i got a set of flowtech headers and they done have the thing for the emissions (smog pump) so i ran into a problem with what am i supposed to do with this smog pump? my father did something for now but said i should find the right way of doing it. like get a new pulley set if they make one of find out what is supposed to be done? thanks..
also he didn't want to block off the back because he said if you did that the air might not get out and freeze up the smog pump

The only real benefit from removing smog is space and weight. It will free up a good bit of space in the engine compartment, especially on the passenger side. You will also lose some weight on the front end, about 20 to 30 lbs (it's not a lot, but it helps). It also looks better without seeing the engine compartment look cluttered. There have been many debates about if it adds any horsepower but most people say no, and I have to agree.
And, yes, all you really have to do is get a new belt and reroute it. I took it one step further, though, and took the air tubes going to the exhaust manifolds off (I had to cut them and then unscrew them) and put in 1/4" pipe plugs in the holes. I can actually now get to 3 of the spark plugs on the drivers side and 2 or 3 on the passenger side!! I could only remove 1 before I removed smog.
