engine build w/TBI
I am getting ready to find me a 350 engine block and start building an engine. What im looking to do is get into the low 13's if possible by using my stock throttle body? Also i am wanting to keep the car fairly streetable. Can this be done, and if so what kind of heads and cam should i go with?

It is all going to boil down to chip tuning. You may want to look into a vortec set-up of some sort. You can get crazy power for a really low price. You are going to have to upgrade every part of your car that is associated with TBI. You will need a better fuel pump and larger injectors. You may have a hard time getting the most out of your new motor with the stock TBI unit.

Thats what i was hoping with the vortec heads, i know you can get those fairly cheap. The deal with the fuel pump is no big deal, i have had to switch one out already so that wont be a big deal. So would you recommend using my TBI unit or going with something else? And also will i be able to keep my car streetable?

Id either do the port and polish W/all of the ultimate TBI mods, or Just save yourself the time and hassle by getting the hollet 670 TBI unit.

Don;t forget the suspension work!
The vortec and tuning would get you very close.

Why not build a high torque low rpm 383? If it's built right it would make gobs of torque where you need it most and still use the stock tb with 350 65lb injectors. I'd say if you could make 300hp and 400ft/lbs tq you would be right in the mid to low 13teens.
Just a guess, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just don't try to spin it to 6000rpm. If you didn't try to go past 5200rpm you probably wouldn't run out of air. With an engine that makes most of it's power down low you don't have to spin it to the moon to go fast. A good gear would probably be a 3.23 with a posi.

I went w/ a LO5 long block with a mild Crane cam (204/214 .429/.452 116), Trick Flow 23* heads, a 2" Edelbrock TBI manifold, a 2" SBC TBI unit, 65# injectors, Hooker 2055's and a full 3" exhaust.
The Engine Builder Analyzer program spit out 385 HP and 430 lb/ft, but I don't know what that would be good for in the 1/4 mile.
Everybody talks about using a bigger cam, but I think you'll get more by not cheating yourself on the heads.
I must of ran 30 combos through that program, and every time a change to the heads made much more significant increase in HP than a larger cam. Also, a larger cam will kill daily usage. As expected, I found the biggest increase by using AFR's 190 heads, but for the increase in HP over the Trick Flow's, I was running into diminishing marginal returns for the money.
