Valve Train on LO3...help

Ok...well my heads (port/polished 416's) are almost done and ready to be put together, and then put onto the car (an 89 rs...l03).

the question I have for you guys is there anythign I need to swap on the heads (Ie different springs, different rocker arms etc) when I am planning on using these heads on my L03......or can I simply take the springs, rocker arms, push rods which I currntly have working in the car right now on the 187 heads and transfer them over to the 416's??????

Help with this one guys.

D

everything will transfer over, the only thing you will have to do is open up the pushrod guides, since the LO3 has self-aligning rockers.

i would however suggest new valve springs, they are cheap insurance.

I saw that in regards to the self aligning rockers.

If I was planning on changing to some 1.6 roller rocker arms would I be better just buying what would work on those heads without modification???? I hear from some of the guys on here that summit sells a set of stamped steel non-aligning arms for cheep/cheep.....

...also....for the "blind man" with his first bit of head work...what is the difference between the aligning & non-aligning rockers. I can figure out from the name that one of them aligns themselves....and the other doesnt...but any pics of the difference between the two?? :-)

i don't have any pics you can probably find some, basicly self-aligning have a grove that keeps the pushrod in place, non-alinging dont' have that groove, so the rely on the guides to keep the pushrod in line.

you can get non-aligning and use the factory guides, or if you are putting in screw in studs (i recomend this) just have the bosses machined for screw-ins, and guidplates. you can get guideplates from summit for cheap. the only extra cost here, is if you go with guideplates, you need hardened pushrods.

also, depending on lift, you may need to elongate the factory guides, and hae the valve-guides cut down, to allow for the lift.
