Werid start ups

I have a 92 305 5-speed. Sometimes when I start the car, the car will all most die but before it dose it will take the rpm back up to 1500 rpm and will go back to almost dieing, it will repeat this over and over some times the car dies too. When it’s doing this if I floor it the car will be really weak and the rpm will go up to 1500 rpm and I’m flooring it! I have tried replacing the TBI gasket and using my spare injectors. And it’s still doing this. And the car takes a while to go back to idle like after stopping at a stoplight it will take 8 secs to get back to normal idle and some times when I start the car the car will go up to 2000 rpm and go back down to normal idling in 10 secs iv seen my friend start it and his car goes to 1000 and with in a sec its back to normal idling. I would really like help on the problem

Check all of your vacuum lines going to the TBI unit. Pay attention to the one that goes to your MAP sensor. If that one is cracked or damaged you could have the symptoms described.

Your plan is fine and is a good precaution measure to prevent future problems.
