Car failed emissions. EGR?

My car just failed the emissions test. They told me that it was "probably" the EGR valve. There are no codes showing. It will cost 300 to replace the valve.
If the valve was bad then would the code show?

Welcome aboard. When the EGR valve hangs open or closed or fails it will throw a cose 32. What parts of your emmisions were off. Running rich or lean due to fueling problems can cuase you to fail as well. When was the last time the car had a good tune up with a new 02 sesor? Also, replace the vavle yoursefl if you can. $300 is a rip off. Two bolts and vacuum line are all that hold it on.

The car (92 Firebird) failed last year also. I had the o2 sensor changed then and the plugs and wires were done maybe 6-8 months ago.
The guy said that it was the nox part of the test that was off and told me that it was probably the EGR. I just cant see replacing it if it's not showing any code.
We did take it off and clean it out. It's at the station now so we will see.
Thanks
