some tbi questions

I am moderately new to injection and have a question which might be strange, might not, I have a 92 lo3 and am bolting a 144 powercharger to it, my question is, can i keep the tbi, i know they make 4 barrel adapters for tbi's so can i either keep the one i have with an injector spacer for more cfm or could i get away with a 454 tbi? I would love to keep the injection if i can because if people pay thousands of dollars for aftermarket tbi injection why should i trash mine if i already got it, huh? anyways, any opinions are appreciated. thanks!

the friendly farm kid engineer, -parker

i am certain you need a chip a specialized chip. i would think it comes with the charger. these chargers are truck applications if i recall. may need custom chips done by you.

chip

the blower is for small block carburated applications in general and has a dual pattern spreadbore/squarebore mounting area thingy, and it doesn't come with a chip, you can get a kit with a chip for tbi applications ubt it's like $900 more, yeah, ouch! also I wonder if there is an individual or a company who burns custom chips for this kind of dilemma.....

Your best bet would be to get into chip tuning yourself or have a custom chip made for you at a reputitable high performance shop that specializes in supercharger installs on fuel injected vehicles. Or you could convert to a carb untill you learned more about tuning efi systems.

There was a guy on here running a supercharger on his mostly stock TBI car and was pulling some good times. Do a search for supercharged TBI or something like that. You're going to need a new fuel pump like a Walbro 255 or something so you don't run out of fuel under boost. Also, I don't think simply saying chip burning is the answer, our ecm's don't have any way to account for boost. You'd have to convert to a '749 ECM I would think, with a 2 bar MAP to control fuel under boost. I think the guy on here though was running it with an FMU.

Isn't the 144 a roots style blower not a centrifugical blower? If it is then the tbi is on top of the blower and does not see boost. He would also pick up his vacuum at the base of the tb not the manifold. If it is like a Vortec or ProCharger then you are correct.

It is force fed through the top of the TBI unit like a ProCharger. You see a lot of guys use the "bonnet" TBI top/scoop for their own custom cold air kits.

yeah, steve it is a roots style blower, it's supposed to be in between a 4-71 and a 6-71 in size but it's basicly a 6-71 made by holley, not a centrifugal, if you look at a pic of my car you'll see why i'm going with a roots.

As far as tb's are concerned it really depends on the hp you want to make. You will surely need more fuel and air just how much will only be deturemaned by the hp number. Up to say 350hp you could probably get by with the 454tb any more than that and you will need to look into a holly system.
