How much to advance timing?

I was thinking about advancing the timing on my 305 TBI and then running premium gas. How much should I advance it to get the most performance out of it?

I ran 4* advaced, with 87octane, and had great success.

I was wondering the same thing about my car. I have a 305 tbi with a few mods and i really wanted to advance my timing but I'm not sure about how far I can go since I have a stage 2 chip. I know I can still advance it a lil but how much?

since that is about all stage II chip has, is advanced timing, i don't know that you need anymore.

I tested lots of timing, and 4* gave me the best ET and MPH. I tried everything form 0* to 8*

I'm not sure how the chips work but from what I've read it'll only advance timing till you hit WOT. Why it's like that I'll never know since WOT is where you really need the advance. Anyway, I just wanted to know if it's safe to advance it any further at all. I run premium gas and have a few other things done if it matters at all. Thanks again for any input.

I thought the ECM overides the timing and makes its own adjustements?

It adds to whatever you set the base at. If it detects knock it pulls timing.

The best way is to set the timing to stock and do all that on the chip. Some places like more timing than others, and if u advance the base timing to x*, the whole table is set that high, even if its too much or not enough.
