Quest For the 13.99 Pass Update

ok guys in my previous post i said i was gonna go with the Edlebrock TBI Cam. Well i scraped that cam and went ahead and installed an LT1 Cam from a 95 Trans Am its only got 35000 on it i picked it up for 40 bucks

now if im correct the LT1 Cam is bigger anyways than the Edlebrock one

now i have seen in Summit a company called Motorvation and the post an ad in the book saying they can burn custom chips for 87-92 GM Cars and trucks does anyone have any experience with this company??

so here it is

1.) LT1 Cam (done)
2.) 1.6 Rockers
3.) Eldebrock TBI Manifold
4.)MSD Distributer
5.) Auburn Posi Unit
6.) 4.11s but that will probably change to a 3.42 or 3.73
7.) Custom Chip

ok guys can i get it??

Unless they drive to your house or you drive your car to them forget it. The only way to get the tune right is with a laptop in your lap and a WB02 in the exhaust. Mail order tunes will not cut it. You will have numerous burns before you get it "just right".

With better heads, I don't think you are getting there. Even then I would doubt it.

Maybe man, it looks like you're pretty close to where you want to be. I say go with a better flowing intake than the Edelbrock TBI one and definitely burn your own chips. You also may wanna check valve clearance with 1.6 rockers on an LT1 cam. If you still can't get there go with an exhaust cutout, skinnies up front and get on a diet!

I just go so info for Motorvation at my shop, so I called them up and asked them if they could burn chips for tbi cars. Well I gave them the combo I'm going to run and they told me 80pph injectors where too big and that they had a guy at there place running a 10 second vet that only had 60pph injectors and told me I was nuts. After I told them that TBI only has two injectors they call back in 4 days and said that would be ok. but they never asked what kinda heads or intake I had. Cost for one of the chips $400. No-Go in my book.

If they don't even know how many injectors TBI has, they wouldn't be touching my car!

I say leave the heads for now. It would be impressive if you could run 13's with the stock block and heads NA!

I don't think it can be done on the stock heads. At the track the other night I was chattin with a 3rd gen TPI camaro guy and he did some really good suspension mods, better rear end, and ported TPI heads and all he could do was a 13.97. do't think it will happen on the LO3 heads

Don't give up yet. Winald is free and you can get an old school laptop off of ebay for $30. All of your chip burning stuff should cost on par with what that shop would charge.

My experience with motorvation was short lived. Back when I needed a chip cuz I switched to SD I ordered their chip service through Summit. Well, when I called to give them my engine info, they didnt seem to have a clue. I told them some basic stuff and it seemed to me they weren't sure of themselves so I cancelled my order and went locally here in AZ. Still got screwed because you cant tune a car thru the mail...paid 400 for a chip that didnt work and was dumping too much fuel in the motor and didnt know it. Recently lost my cam due to fuel wash and I am mad...Why didnt I bring the car to them? because AZ is a big state and they were too far away to deal with in person. By the way, they stood by their "chip guy" even after all these problems.

Its not the actual chip burning itself thats usually the problem, its the whole engine theory part that usually trips people up. There is arguably too many choices to be made and if you dont really know which way to go youll never make any headway.

Hell, even programming one of these ecms isnt that bad, but when it comes to the advanced theory itself, I spend alot of time scratching my head trying to figure out what I have to do.

With a carb all of that is taken out of the hands of the tuner, but you loose precision and functionality.
