The other day i had a quarter of a tank and I put 2 gallons in so I could make it to and back before I got paid.I was on flat ground when I was almost to work and my car made a small noise and a jerk and was dying.I had my cruise on and I put my foot in it cause it was dying and it would't help.I coasted up the ramp and pulled over and started the engine.After about 3-4 seconds it started up and has not given anymore problems since.I tried to if there where any codes,but none.If a fuel pump was trying to go out,would't a code 54 show up?I am ruling out the int.moduler since it has been 3 days since this happen because it has't happen anymore.Maybe water was in the tank?

 

Sounds like it ran out of gas. Even if the gauge said it still had some gas in the tank it was probably wrong. Keep about 5 or more gallons in it for a week or so and see if the problem comes back. Its real easy for the gas to slosh around and expose the pickup on the pump. Once that happens, the fuel pressure drops to zero and it jerks or dies. Ive done it lots of times. Its how I know when its really time to get gas since my gauge is beat.

 

As for the code 54, that wont set unless there is zero voltage being delivered to the pump. Diagnostic for the fuel pump relay, really.

 

Thanks.Iwill try that.But could water in the tank do that too,or maybe some trash.The filter was changed last Nov.

 

Possibly. Theres a strainer on the pump pickup. Although if it was clogged its unlikely the problem would have gone away.

 

Lol, I'm the same with Dimented, only my guage does work IIRC, the fuel pick-up is in the back left corner of the tank, so if you are making a right-hand turn and/or brakeing that can cause the pickup to just suck air. (ever notice your gas needle moving when you brake/accelerate?) I have that 'lack of fuel' problem all the time, it's nothing to worry about...
