Rpm problem...

I have been noticing that when i start on my car , it could be cold or hot, I start it on and the rpms sky rocket up too 1800-2000, and then go down. I have tryed to set the iac, and when it is ideling at around 650rpm and i turn on the a/c it shuts off. The only way it stays on with the a/c working is that i raise the ideling to about 850 rpm. I dont like the idel to be so high. I guess that because of the rpms going up so high(when start) it could also cause the idel to be high.

is your car an auto?
auto have a high idle that drops to 6oo ish when put in gear.
Also have you tried pushing on the EGR valve to see if it stuck?
I think you can check by getting someone to start the car when cold and you should feel it open up.
It's simple to take it off and clean it or replace it if thats at fault..
are you getting any codes?
Also the cold weather has started my car to intially idel high till it warms up a little.

My car is a 5 speed. My buddy has a deleted egr and has never gave him a problem. I have a chip so that the computor can read that i dont have an egr. I daught it is the egr.

2000 rpm is too high. It should go no higher then around 1400 rpm when cold. The IAC cant be set, really. It may be sticking or faulty. What else was done to your chip? Just disableing the egr error code, or more?

The chip that i have right now only took of smog, cat, egr. I have two iac's , but both of them are old. The original iac spring is thicker and shorter, and the iac that i have right now on my cars spring is thinner but longer. I tried to set the iac, on the first attempt it turned on well and with the a/c on it worked. I turned of my car and on the second crank the rpms went right up, and turned of with the a/c on.
