Short intake question

Hey, newbie question time, as I seem to just never get a complete answer by sorting hundreds of threads off the search. Is a intake manifold considered a bolt on? in the same sense as an exhaust I mean. Thats another way of saying, will my car run at least on par with the way it did before the swap without chipburning? I'm getting a full exhaust soon and I was going to do that at the same time. Besides intake manifold, tbi adapter, and new gaskets, do I need anything else? One last thing, does anyone have experiences with a good intake manifold? I don't need the EGR part, but I do need to clear the stock hood. Thanks guys.

Nope, intake manifold is a bolt & go. Depending on the manifold you get and the heads you get later though you could run into some problems, but right now if you are just getting a manifold swap em' and run. Give me a few days and I'll have a whole thread with an intake manifold swap in it! (with pics) Good luck dude...

Finally, something I might be able to do with my tools and money.... This whole "i'm a high school kid" thing is starting to SUCK,

Does it matter if its a single plane or dual plane? I was looking at some performer RPM dual plane manifolds.

No it doesn't matter. Some intakes do not have EGR provisions though and you would really want to edit that out of the chip. You may also want to check with your local smog laws to make sure that EGR is not needed. Other than that you can use a carb adapter plate and go with a multitude of intkes out there. You may need to get some various vacuum T's and fittings however. The only true bolt on intake for these cars (I mean everything goes back in the stock location) is the edelbrock performer TBI. Too bad it is just mediocre as far as intakes are concerned.
